HOW YOU WERE INVOLVED:

MYPC Hawaii; World Youth Congress Morocco

DATES:

1998 to 2006

WHAT YOU ARE DOING NOW:

I am cofounder & Mental Health Director of Humanity Crew, Israel. A psychiatrist and psychotherapist, grew up in a small Arab Palestinian village in the Galilee. I specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry and graduated as a doctor from psychoanalytic school. In 2015, I went to Greece for a humanitarian rescue mission where I co-founded Humanity Crew with my wife. We have been working with refugees ever since. Currently, I am an avid refugee mental health activist and researcher. I have spoken in countless conferences and media outlets all over the world, advocating for the importance of mental health support for refugees. In 2016 Humanity Crew was awarded “The Defenders of Refugee Rights Award” at the 4th Edition of Cities Defending Human Rights in Barcelona. In 2018, I became a TED Fellow and Speaker.

MESSAGE / REFLECTION:

This year marks the 40th since the Peace Child International organization started. It was my pleasure to be part of such an honourable organization. With its noble goal, to empower young people around the world to build a better society, it helps create a bright future for them and everyone else. Today I am a mental health expert and activist and the founder of Humanity Crew, an NGO that provides psychosocial support for refugees around the world. And whenever I am asked: “When did you start to be an activist?” I just answer: “On my first day at PCI.” Happy birthday, PCI.
